Guiding in Lyneham

Brownie Guides have fun! Their meetings are full of activities and include suggestions from the Brownies themselves. There are opportunities for them to learn new and practical skills and by taking part in games they discover how to be part of a team. Brownies can earn badges for doing their best to meet special Challenges.

They can also work for a wide range of interest badges. As well as the weekly meeting during term time, there may also be special activities and events at the weekend or during school holidays. The highlight of the year is often the Brownie holiday or camp.

Being a Brownie is all about having a great time and loads of fun! You've just got to be a girl aged seven or over. If you are not between 7 and 10 then you could join the Rainbow Guides (age 5-7 years), the Guides (age 10-14 years). The Rainbow's meet on Tuesdays 4.45pm - 5.45pm at the Lyneham Guide and Scout Hut for girls.

Guiding is a game - with a purpose. It provides opportunities for girls and young women to:

  • be challenged by new adventures and experiences and achieve a sense of pride in accomplishment
  • develop self-awareness, self-respect and self-confidence
  • develop a personal faith and values to give life meaning and direction
  • think for themselves, govern themselves and make their own decisions
  • make friends and have fun in the family of Guiding
  • develop a sense of tolerance, justice, kindness and honour
  • learn teamwork and acquire leadership skills, working with and for others
  • appreciate the environment and how to live in it
  • understand and learn about the world, its people and cultures
