Village Hall
The Green
Lyneham
Lyneham Village Hall is located in the northern part of
the village prominently situated next to the green on the
main Calne Road entering the village.
This building was the former Women's Auxillary Air Force
Association accommodation and mess hall, while a more permanent
residence was being built on the airbase in the early 1940's.
Now it is a busy community facility for Lyneham residents.

Over 50 years ago the RAF's premier
front line fighter warplane, the Supermarine Spitfire, was
being manufactured in requisitioned buildings and motor car
garages in nearby Swindon. It was during the dark days of
the Battle of Britain that the traditional local industries
of wool processing, farming and brewing of fine ales yielded
to accommodate the modern and unfamiliar smells associated
with the production of aircraft.
Since the turn of the millennium, the village hall has undergone
some recent extensive renovation work, the ceilings have been
replaced and lowered, a modern central heating system installed
and all round exterior fencing added for safety. It is an
ideal venue for your own community needs and can be hired
at very reasonable rates. The Hall will comfortably seat about
60 and has a range of tables and chairs available. many local
clubs use the facilities, including after school clubs, Women's
Institute and the Lyneham & Bradenstoke Parish Council
hold regular meetings here. |
