The Kelly's Directory of Wiltshire, 1867 illustrates the following commercial traders and inhabitants within the village. The description provided: Lyneham is a village and parish, in the Northern division of the county, Cricklade anti Wootton Bassett union, Kingsbridge hundred, Calne county court district, Avebury rural deanery. Wilts archdeaconry, and Salisbury diocese, 4¼ miles south-west from Wootton Bassett. The church of St. Michael is an ancient edifice, in the Perpendicular style; has a low tower containing 5 bells, a nave and south aisle: it has lately been restored by the lord of the manor and parishioners, at a cost of nearly £3,000, and contains a monument to the Walker Heneage family. The register dates from the year 1653. The living is a perpetual curacy annual value £140, with 3 acres of glebe, in the gift of G. H. W. Heneage, Esq., and held by the Rev. Eyre W. Hussey M.A., of Christ Church, Oxford.

A school, endowed with 25 acres of land producing about £39 per annum, is now merged in the National school. The Great Western Railway and the Wilts and Berks Canal pass within half a mile of the parish. G. H. W. Heneage, Esq., is lord of the manor and principal landowner. The soil is corn brash; subsoil, sand. The chief crops are grass and wheat. The area is 3,242 acres, of which about one-half is arable and the other pasture, and the population in 1861 was 1,034. The Parish Clerk, is George Guy.

CLACK is a new district, formed for ecclesiastical purposes, under the name of Bradenstoke-cum-Clack a mile and a half west from Lyneham. The church is Gothic exceedingly beautiful, and was erected by Gabriel Goldney, Esq., M.P. The living is a perpetual curacy, annual value £150, in the gift of Gabriel Goldney, Esq., M.P., and held by the Rev. James Douglas Hoysted, M.A., of Trinity College, Dublin. There is a National School, supported by the parishioners. Fairs are held here at Michaelmas and Lady Day. Bradenstoke Abbey is a farm-house, occupying the site of a priory for Augustine monks, founded about 1142, and dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, some parts of the present building are very ancient. In the village is a dilapidated stone cross. Gabriel Goldney, Esq., M.P., is lord of the manor and principal landowner.
