Church Field Grazing

The image was taken on the 3rd March 2008 of Church Fields Lyneham, which is located down Preston Lane opposite the Victoria Drive green. This land, formerly known as Church Fields (119) in the 1905 Estate sale as a 'very fertile arable enclosure', and prior to that Mortimers Church Field (305) in the 1821 Tithe Apportionments. The 21 acre field was recently put up for sale and the was sold individually with 88 plots to be made available for future housing development. In late 2007 United Land Holdings Plc, the company which purchased the land, went into liquidation and doubt was raised on the future of the site. In the spring of 2008 we noticed the land has been fenced off and served for sheep to graze.

Do you know any other village bygones, facts or hold images of the past, what the building was used for, who visited it, or do you you have a tale to tell with the life in Lyneham. If so please let us know so we can fill in the missing bygones of the village and share it with everyone else. Please contact the webmaster here.
