Lyneham Village Green 1940

The image taken in the mid 1940's of Lyneham Green and the Village Hall, Ordnance Survey Grid Reference SU 020 792. The beautiful thatched cottage was utilised as a village café, often serving the Womens Auxiliary Air Force members, who use to be billetted in housing where the Pound Close estate currently stands. The Village Hall was built by Major Buxton , who lived at Tockenham Court Manor.

With thanks to Ray Cole for a copy of this picture postcard.

Do you know any other village bygones, facts or hold images of the past, what the building was used for, who visited it, or do you you have a tale to tell with the life in Lyneham. If so please let us know so we can fill in the missing bygones of the village and share it with everyone else. Please contact the webmaster here.
