Broad Town White Horse 2006

This image was taken on an early April morning, from the sheep heights of Bellcroft Farm (Ordnance Survey grid reference: SU 071 765) looking north east towards the outskirts of Clyffe Pypard.

On the distant ridge top is the White Horse of Broad Town (Ordnance Survey grid reference: SU 098 783). It is on land which once belonged to Little Town Farm.

It was cut in 1864 by a William Simmonds, who held the farm then. Simmonds claimed later that it had been his intention to enlarge the horse gradually over the years, but he had to give up the farm and so did not have the opportunity Why not visit the Wiltshire White Horse website : www.wiltshirewhitehorses.org.uk for more information
