Catcombe Wood

This scenic view taken from Spirthill looking northwest towards the hillside which has been covered by the large Catcombe Wood. Travelling left along the ridge top of the Lyneham airfield perimeter are Avon Grove and Melsome Woods. The buildings in the middle of the image are Godsell Cottages and Wood Farm which are on the Foxham Common road leading out east towards Bremhill and Calne.

The falling hillside woods on the most western side of the airbase drops from approximately 145m down to 65m and covers about 3 square kilometres of land. Melsome Wood hillside looks out west towards Christian Malford and the main Paddington to Bristol rail link.
