RAF Lyneham Main Gate 1950

This picture taken in 1950, shows the main gate to RAF Lyneham with an immaculate guard of honour standing to attention with their arms at general salute, awaiting the Air Officer Commanding to get out of his staff car at the gates and sentry post.

The guard room was situated to the left behind the flag pole on the left. The guardroom was a single storey cement block building, skim coated and painted white. It had a canine section at the rear, with a doorway opening into the guardroom.

This picture is with special thanks to Mr Jim Newman. If you would like to read an interesting account of Jim's bygone memories of the station in 1950 click here
