This early picture taken mid 1951 outside
No 2 Harrow Grove shows Mr Jim Newman, right, then a
Cranwell Apprentice and his father, W.O. Bert Newman,
who, for ten years was Lyneham's SWO. Jim kindly sent
this image to Lyneham Village Online and mentions about
the recent image
taken of his former home. "I see that there
have been some alterations since we lived there for
the ten years from Nov of 1948. I see that gone are
those dreadful metal window frames with lots of panes.
Also, a roof has been added over the front porch that
once was only a cement slab,
supported by buttress walls. (Water marks were always
present on the inside wall over the door, from seepage
through the bricks off that flat slab.) The front door
has been changed, too."
Thank You Jim.
