Thickthorn Farm

Thickthorn Farm steeps in local history as part of the former Lyneham Manor comprising of the four hamlets of Lyneham, Tockenham, Preston and Bradenstoke. Located in the gradual sloping valley of Preston Vale it was part of the Walker Henage family consortium of farms in the late 1890's. Thicktorn Farm, had 163 acres of land and at that time was occupied by Thomas Large.

Today, Thickthorn Farm is actually separated into three areas today. No. 1 Thickthorn Farm is currently vacant and covers 89 acres. In the event that this farm is re-let it would be used for dairying purposes. No 3 Thickthorn Farm, Lyneham, extends to 37.3 hectares (92 acres) and has been occupied by the existing tenant since September 1985. The holding is designated as an arable holding and forms part of the Lyneham/Bushton Estate. This picture was taken April 2006
