Lyneham's former Guardpost

This rather derelict building was actually a former guardpost for the newly buily RAF station in the late 1940's.

Located in the north of the village, just behind Barrow End Farm, on the side path to the fields (Ordnance Survey grid reference: SU015796). The brick building was provided to accommodate up to ten troops and must have been rather noisey and cold, as the location was not best suited, on the end of the main airfield runway and exposed to the winds rolling along the Dauntsey banks valley.

A resident who lives closeby recalls the times they provided the guards with food and additional blankets. Occasionally they used to help with the laundry for the war time.
