The Preston Lane pigs have become quite
an attraction for the many walkers who frequently exercise
along the slight hillsides down Preston Lane.
The Preston Farm field has been changed during the
winter of 2006 to accommodate quite a few traditional
Saddleback pigs and their offspring have been very
popular by the visiting Lyneham families. Occasionaly
we have seen a few piglets enacting the 'Tamworth
Two', the infamous escapees from Malmesbury, by venturing
under the farm gates. They soon know where the 'bread
is buttered' and return back to the field for a another
meal.
The Gloucester
Old Spot are also seen in the field, this
rare-breed, the original Orchard Pig are reared slowly
to maturity,
roaming freely in paddocks during the summer and in
straw bedded sheds in the winter. |
