Bradenstoke Junction

RAF Lyneham was opened on 13th February 1940, and on 18 May the first unit was formed. With the continued expansion of the air force a decision was made in 1949 to requisite the land around the old Barrow End Common for additional military storage and maintenance facilities.

The main road into Bradenstoke was altered and a new junction was built along Hollow Way. The road coloured red was the original routing into Bradenstoke via the common and Cranley Farm and Ewage Road ran south via Lyneham Court Farm and onto Freegrove.

The existing Bradenstoke junction and road is coloured blue.
