The Local Roads prior to the M4

In the early 1960's before the M4 motorway was built the Wootton Bassett and Chippenham Roads were the main trunk routes between Swindon and Chippenham.

The A3102 from neighboring Wootton Bassett was formerly marked as the A420 and the current A3102 from this junction towards Calne was the B3102. Originally this roundabout was a T-junction with a triangular central island and a slip road leading through traffic from Dauntsey to Wootton Bassett.
