This image was taken in 1948, on an
early Sunday morning as the troops were route marching
down Chippenham Road towards the church in the village.
They had left the airbase old main gates, which were
at the Bradenstoke junction. This picture shows the
old Lyneham Green farm and two passing cyclists who
had just witnessed the formal marching troops. The white
gate is directly opposite where St Michaels Close is
today. Picture with thanks to Mr Chuck Taylor, Chippenham
Road Lyneham.
Do you know any other village bygones, facts or hold images of the past, what the building was used for, who visited it, or do you you have a tale to tell with the life in Lyneham.
If so please let us know so we can fill in the missing
