The image was taken 13th February 2009,
captures the southern face of the church tower and
belfry, exposed by the magnificient yew tree
with a major portion of the top of the ageing tree
broken off as a result of the heavy snow fall during
the month. Heavy snow of up to six inches fell and
the weight was to much for the top canopy and branches.
Many of the tombstones in the foreground belong to
the Lyneham forefathers, the Large, Pullen, Fry and
Hiskins families.
Lyneham Church is actually in the southern part of
the village and considered at the
perimeter of
the community prior to the military airbase being built
in 1940, hence the name of some local roads as Church
End. |
