A3102 Frying Pan Bottom

This aerial photograph was taken October 2003 shows the northerly part of the village with the main A3102 road entering the village from Wootton Bassett and Swindon. Grid reference at centre of image - SU 023 798 GB Grid.

The main Swindon road, starting in the top left hand corner, bends out of the village heading in a north-easterly direction, dipping and twisting past South View and the Old Vicarage, which is situated on the extreme left hand edge of the picture. The road then follows past The Folly, colloquially "Frying Pan Bottom" named after the pattern of the road layout, looking like a frying pan from the air. The road then leads past the large wooded area to the left, Brick Kiln Copse and past the farm buildings of Pound Farm owned by Mr Webb.

The twisting shallow gorge in the field at the top right corner of the image is the stream of Lillybrook leading to a ford as it crosses Farthing Lane.
