This aerial picture taken October 2003
shows the Melsome Road housing estate. Located in the
southern part of Lyneham village the properties are
primarily MoD housing for the families of RAF Lyneham. Grid reference at centre of estate - SU 018 779 GB Grid
The estate, bordered by screening trees to attenuate
some of the local airfield noise is one of the latter
estates to be be built to accommodate the families.
It was thought to have been built on the wrong side
of the main A3102 Lyneham to Calne Road. The airfield
peri-track was used to allow aircraft to be moved in
and out of the maintenance hangers.
The caravans in the field is purely a storage area
