The carnival floats (or carts as they are sometimes
referred as), are designed and built by dedicated carnival
clubs around the West Country. These carnival clubs have many
members who raise money throughout the year, and work relentlessly
to achieve the spectacular carnival entries.
The carnival floats take part in the carnival parade along
with other entries; these range from clowns dancing in the
streets to 100ft illuminated carnival floats (some with up
to 30,000 light bulbs) pulled by tractors and large HGV. |

Bridgewater Carnival
www.bridgwatercarnival.org.uk
Early November, Bridgwater takes its Carnival seriously. The
history of Bridgwater Carnival dates back to the 1605 gunpowder
plot, when Guy Fawkes failed to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
This event is a sell out and provides much needed revenue
to support the local carnival clubs, who in early November
stage what is probably the largest illuminated carnival in
the world. |

Somerset Carnivals

Somerset is rightly famous for its carnivals, which attract
thousands of visitors and locals each year. Towns and villages
in South Somerset work hard throughout the year to make sure
that this year's event is even bigger and better than before.
Come along and join the fun! |
