Remembrance Day More..

Handicraft - Things to Do - Poppy Wreath

Poppy Wreath - Make Your Own

Remembrance Day - is the day when the dead of two World Wars and other armed conflicts are remembered in the UK. The Armistice at the end of the First World War of 1914 - 1918 was signed on November 11th at precisely 11 am - the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Every year many people wear a poppy with pride, to remember the fallen heroes. Some also lay wreaths at memorial posts around the world.

Why not put your handicraft skills to the test and make this very simple Poppy Wreath. It's primarily aimed for the children, but both parents, carers and the children can have fun making one.

Poppy Wreath - Make Your Own

Materials you will need are:

  • a printer
  • paper (I prefer white construction paper or another heavier paper)
  • scissors
  • glue
  • crayons
  • paper plate.

How to make:

  • Print out the template of choice. Depending on the size of your wreath you may need two copies to complete it.
  • Colour pieces, as necessary.
  • Cut out the poppies. This step may require adult assistance and can be done prior to making the craft with the children.
  • Cut the center out of the paper plate to leave a round "donut" shape. This will form the base of the wreath.
  • You may paint it a background colour if you like (green or brown would work nicely).
  • Paste the poppies onto the paper plate.
  • You can tie a bow and paste it on to decorate further.
  • You can put a piece of yarn on the back to hang it.

Print a template:

  • Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
  • Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).

    Good Luck and have fun..
