Lyneham's day-to-day domestic waste is collected
by North Wilts District Council Cleansing and Amenities Team
primarily every Wednesday and
Thursday.
North Wiltshire District Council are very proactive to ensure
'Recycling and Waste Minimisation' is a high priority among
the community and have finalised the introduction of "Wheelie
Bins" and "Black Recycle Bins" in the latter
stages of 2004.
The recycling education will hopefully grow and it is envisaged
that more and more people will actively recycle more of their
waste products in the near future and continue to help the
environment.

As the world's population increases and standards
of living rise, increasing demands are made on the world's
natural resources. Both renewable and non-renewable resources
are being depleted and conservation is the main priority when
we help conserve what we have already got. When emptying our
house-hold bin and wait for the weekly
refuse collection a little thought to see what is beening
thrown away. |

Information
Wiltshire County Council provides waste recycling centres where
you can take Household Waste unsuitable for normal refuse collection.
The centre is managed on behalf of the County Council by Hills Group
who are encouraged to recover as much waste as they can for reuse
and recycling.
Typically around ¾ of all waste delivered to a Household
Waste Recycling Centre is reused, recycled or composted instead
of being disposed of in landfill sites. The Household Waste Recycling
Centres provide facilities for all household waste including the
following:-
Bathroom/kitchen ceramics, bric-a-brac, bricks, car batteries,
cardboard, cans, cookers, DIY waste, doors, electrical goods, engine
oil, fridges, freezers, furniture, garden waste, gas cylinders,
glass bottles & jars, newspapers & magazines, plastic bottles,
plate glass, scrap metal, textiles, tiles, window frames, wood.
Vehicle tyres cannot be accepted at the sites. Please contact your
local tyre outlet for advice.
Please note: No trade waste
is accepted at these sites. Do not put the environmentally hazardous
substances in the bin. These will end up on the land fill sites
and damage our soil, vegetation and more important the air we breathe.
If you are not sure contact a local Environmental Office, (Tel 01249
706430). You can help, restricting the depletion of natural resources,
by recycling metal containers, car tyres and glass. There are plenty
of recycling centres around.
