Rising Star provides Orchestral Delight
Finalist in the 2009
BBC Radio 2 Young Brass Musician of the Year competition,
Lauren Reeve-Rawlings, will be the soloist for the Wessex
Concert Orchestra’s forthcoming
concert at St John’s Church, Devizes, on Saturday
March 28, where she will be performing Mozart’s Horn
Concerto No.4.
Lauren, 17, from Kington St Michael, near Chippenham, has
played with WCO for some years, and is an emerging star,
playing in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain,
and recently having secured a place at the Guildhall School
of Music.
Alongside the majestic Horn Concerto, the WCO will be offering
a resounding programme of popular classics including Beethoven’s
Symphony No.8, Faure’s Masques et Bergamasques,
and works by Butterworth, and Wagner. The sublime Adagietto from
Mahler’s 5th Symphony also features. The concert begins
at 7.30 pm.
The Chippenham-based Wessex Concert Orchestra, continues
to go from strength to strength under the musical direction
of Andrew Baatz, and this will be the orchestra’s first
visit to Devizes for many years. “This is such
an exciting prospect for the orchestra, both to be playing
in another town in the Wessex region, and to be working with
Lauren. We’ve watched Lauren grow within the
orchestra over the past 5 years, so this a real joy for us,
and we are very proud of her”.
Tickets cost £8 (£4 concessions) and are available
from Devizes Books on tel. 01380 725944,
or email to tickethotline@wco.org.uk.
