Swindon & Marlborough NHS Trust The Trust
provides health services from two main sites: The Great Western
Hospital in Swindon, which is a district general hospital
and the Savernake Hospital in Marlborough. Additionally they
also provide services at Marlborough House, which is for
child and adolescent mental health facilities which is in
Old Town, Swindon adjacent to the old site of the Princess
Margaret Hospital
Since the turn of the century, the scale of medical services
change, which has affected us all, has been immense. New hospitals,
news services and directives are in place. Anyone driving
past the Great Western Hospital, - Swindon's 'hospital for
the millennium' opened on Tuesday 3rd of December 2002, marking
a new era for the town's healthcare provision, - cannot have
failed to notice the new building which has appeared at the
eastern end of the site.
The Brunel NHS Treatment Centre opened in April 2005 with
128 beds, five operating theatres and a wealth of the latest
technology. The fact that the new centre will deal only with
elective (planned) surgery means that cancelled operations
due to high numbers of emergency admissions will virtually
become a thing of the past. |
