Community - By-Election 2006
- The Conservative Candidate Sarah Still |
 |
Lyneham
Ward By-Election
23rd February 2006
covering the villages of Lyneham, Bradenstoke, Buston, Clyffe
Pypard and Tockenham
Sarah Still - The Conservative
Party
Over the last few weeks, I have enjoyed
meeting so many of you and listening to your concerns. The
time is drawing near when you will be asked to make your choice
for the next Lyneham Councillor. I am not promising you the
earth, I am too realistic for that, and know how difficult
it can be to achieve results in a Council where priorities,
and budgets, have to be balanced.
I do, however, promise that I will work with my Conservative
colleagues to get the best deal and the best decisions for
the people of Lyneham Ward. I have the right qualities to
be a good councillor and work hard for you - all I ask is
that you give me the opportunity to prove it!
Sarah Still
The Conservative Party candidate |
When you talked
to us on the doorstep, some of you were still undecided as
to which way to vote.
Allow us to help you.... |
| |
Three
Reasons to Vote for Sarah Still… |
 |
I live and
work in Lyneham Ward, and therefore have
excellent first hand experience of local
issues and difficulties |
 |
I already have experience
of local politics, so I know what is involved
and want to do more |
 |
I believe in working
for the community throughout the year, not
just at election time |
|
|
|
Three
Reasons to Vote Conservative |
 |
Conservative
run councils are amongst the highest performers
in the country, according to National statistics |
 |
Conservatives believe
in getting the important services right |
 |
Your local Conservative
councillors, Toby Sturgis and Allison Bucknell,
and your Conservative M.P. James Gray, have
a proven track record of getting things
done in the Ward |

You
asked - "Why we don't recycle plastics and cardboard
at the doorstep?"
Firstly, doorstep recycling was FUNDED
by Conservative controlled WILTSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL,
in association with HILLS WASTE, NOT by NORTH WILTSHIRE
DISTRICT COUNCIL. National Government has set RECYCLING
TARGETS, which are based on TONNAGE. Plastic and Cardboard
is high volume and light weight, and the economics of
collecting this at the doorstep (mainly the size of
the freighters required), plus the fact that there is
not a big market for those recycled products, led WCC
and Hills to focus on collection of the heavier goods.
It is hoped that there will be local mini-collection
centres for other products later on in the year. |
 |
You
asked - "What can be done about Bradenstoke junction?"
After living in Bradenstoke for 30 years, the other
candidate at this election has decided to raise a petition
to "do something" about the Bradenstoke junction.
What is this "something"? Councils at all
levels, together with the police, have been involved
and each "solution" brings its own problems.
Previous Lib Dem councillors have failed to "get
something done", and unfortunately, the Conservatives
have had to admit that there is no cost effective solution
either. Elections seem to be a great opportunity to
jump on the promises bandwagon.... |
 |
You
asked - "Can you make the roundabout at Preston
Lane safer?"
We have spoken to those responsible
at Wiltshire County Council and they have committed
to repaint the white lines at PRESTON LANE ROUNDABOUT
as soon as the weather is favourable.
|
 |
You
asked - "Why do the Lib Dems keep comparing NWDC
Council Tax with WCC Council Tax - surely they are not
the same?"
Quite right, Wiltshire County Council
is responsible for schools, libraries, social services,
roads to name but a few. North Wiltshire District Council
has a much smaller remit. If you compare the size of
the budgets, WCC has a budget 20 TIMES LARGER than NWDC.
The comparisons you have been shown are therefore unrealistic,
like comparing chalk and cheese. |
 |
You
asked - "Why have people on Housing Benefits in
North Wiltshire received EVICTION NOTICES?"
Many people in the district have their
rents paid directly by the council through the Housing
Benefit System. At one point, the Lib Dem controlled
council was up to 16 weeks behind in processing claims,
causing great distress and hardship to vulnerable tenants.
Meanwhile the council is spending time and effort on
projects such as bringing FOAMHENGE to North Wiltshire.
We believe that it is a question of "getting your
priorities right" |

Message from your
local Conservative Councillors, Allison Bucknell and Toby
Sturgis:
“We are really pleased that Sarah
Still has asked to stand as our candidate at this election.
Sarah is very down to earth and has good knowledge of the
local area and local issues. At the last by-election you chose
a Conservative councillor, and we are pleased to offer you
another high calibre candidate this time round.”
