General Election 2005

Election 2005 - Mr Paul Fox Liberal Democrats
Action for Lyneham

A Message from Paul Fox
As we near the end of a hard fought election campaign, I want to say a personal thank you for the tremendous support I have received across North Wiltshire.

Almost everyone I meet really believes that we can win this time; but I am not taking it for granted, and it could be very close. One thing everyone knows is that Labour cannot win this constituency. Local people are choosing between myself and Michael Howard's Conservatives.

I have met many people who feel let down by both Labour and the Conservatives, and who are fed up with their seemingly endless bickering. I am too. That's why we have tried to be clear and positive about what we stand for, offering a REAL alternative. Many people are saying it is about time for a chance.

We need an MP who will stand up for local services such as schools, hospital and post offices, both in the Constituency and Westminster.

We need an MP who will prevent our communities becoming suburbs of Swindon. We need fairer (not higher) taxes, and to make sure the money is being well spent. That's why we want to scrap the council tax, and hidden taxes like charges for personal care for the elderly and student tuition fees.

We need more Police actually out on the beat. We need an increase in the base state pension by £25 per week, starting with the over 75s, together with a full pension entitlement for all citizens, even if they had time off work for caring responsibilities.

Internationally we need action on climate change, and to put our country's interests first, not those of George Bush.

Above all, we need to restore a sense of trust - by being honest about the choices we face, and ensuring that those who misled us on such an important issue as war in Iraq are not re-elected.

If ever I can be of service to you, then please do not hesitate to get in touch.

With Best Wishes,
Paul Fox

PS - If you know of anyone who needs a lift to vote for me, please ring my HQ on 01249 652602
PPS - Remember you have two votes in this election. Please also vote for my good friend Louise Mortlock on the County Council. I need Louise as part of my local team.

Action for Lyneham
Paul Fox and Louise Mortlock believe the Government's decision to close RAF Lyneham and centre all operations at just one location is strategically misguided. Paul says, "The use of only one location puts our logistics capability at greater threat from terrorism."

As your local MP, Paul Fox will lobby the Government to reconsider Lyneham's future. Paul says, "RAF Lyneham has been a byword for excellence for many years. I want that proud tradition to continue. "However, should the Government press ahead with closure, Paul and Louise will work hard to make sure the site is used to ensure the viability of the local community, at the same time as campaigning against over-development.
