Over the past two elections, there has been
quite a low turnout and people have indicated that they wish
had voted but missed out during the August 2005 election.
This election was won by one vote
after several recounts. From an electorate of 3663 only 29.46%
voted, which was marginally better than the 28% turnout for
the May 2003 election.
Any requests for changes to existing postal or proxy vote
applications must be made by 5pm on Wednesday 8th February.
New applications to vote by post or by proxy must reach the
Electoral Registration Office by 5pm on Wednesday 15th February
2006.
How do I get a postal vote?
You should ask your Electoral Registration Officer to send
you a form or download one from the North Wiltshire District
Council website by clicking on the link here [Postal
Votes Link], which you must complete and return before
5pm on Wednesday 15th February 2006. For a permanent arrangement
you do not have to wait for an election to be called, and
can apply at any time, and we would suggest the earlier the
better.
Ballot papers will be sent out a few days before an election,
and if you are only going away for a short time, you might
need to think carefully where you are likely to be when the
ballot papers are sent out. For example you might be away
on polling day itself, but not leaving home until a couple
of days before polling day, in which case you might prefer
to have your papers sent to your home address. Postal ballot
papers must be received by the Returning Officer by no later
than the close of poll.
Polling Day

will be located at St Michael's Church Hall, Bradenstoke Village
Hall, Tockenham Village Hall and Clyffe Pypard & Bushton
Village Hall.
Poll Count
When the poll closes at 9pm all the ballot boxes will be transferred
immediately to the counting station. The count will be take
place at St Michael & All Angels Church Hall, Lyneham.
