In the interest of public safety we all need to ensure the
community is safeguarded when building proposals are designed
and built. They are to be a good standard to meet the requirements
of the Building Regulations and associated legislation.
Notably; acceptable stability, thermal insulation, weather
proofing, structural fire safety & means of escape and
disabled access arrangements.
Inspection of building work in progress is carried out to
monitor key construction stages and to confirm compliance with
building regulations and associated codes of practice. North
Wiltshire District Council is responsible for most things that
the planning system does in this area. Among the most important
are; the production of development plans; the processing of
planning applications and the enforcement of planning legislation.
Whether we like it or not, the planning system is used to
ensure that the things we need like schools, roads, houses,
places to work etc. get built in the right places and that
the wrong things do not get built at all.
Planning permission is required for carrying out construction,
alteration to buildings or their change of use. The planning
permission gives you approval to undertake the works as described
in your application.
Planning Portal: A very
useful government guideline, offering an online service for
planning advise. You can use the tools and information to find
out about planning in our area and what development you can
perform around your house. See www.planningportal.gov.uk
